Poker and Bowling go hand in hand

My boyfriend is an aspiring pro-bowler and pro-poker player. What better to celebrate his birthday last year than two cakes featuring his favorite hobbies?

The bowling pins and bowling ball were free-handed using a toothpick so I could get them *just right* before using the icing.

His favorite poker hand...eight-ten of hearts. He won a big tournament with this hand!

A poker cake for one of his friends...featuring his favorite hand ("The Hammer")....seven-deuce off suit. LOL. My first attempt at a FBCT (frozen buttercream transfer) for the cards.

Detroit Redwings Cake

I don't know much about hockey, but I do know that this cake was crazy fun to make! I carved it out of a sheet cake and printed the logo (mirror image) and cut it out. To get the image on the cake, I took a sheet of wax paper and punched holes in it all the way around the lines of the logo. The holes left enough of a pattern on the wax paper to impress it on the top of the cake. All I needed to do was fill it in with red icing. A little tricky, but it worked! Now if only I could get my red icing to look truly red...

Whipped Cream frosting

My first foray into using whipped cream frosting. I can't remember which recipe I used, I just know I found it on Cake Central. It's not very easy to decorate with, but it sure does taste yummy! A Welcome Home cake and a Birthday cake.
